Hello sir, My name is Ankit Jain. I am from Ahmedabad. I am a 20 year old college student. We have a group of 24 friends in the third year of B.Com. I am writing this letter to you just to share my thoughts with you. I like you as a good & respectable director. After watching the movie I realized that no one is appreciating the director after the success of the movie. Everybody is appreciating the actors & actresses, but i appreciate you. I have not been able to watch a single movie with my family for a long period now, because in today’s age, there is no film that we can watch with family. Now you have given to us such a wonderful movie - Vivah. After watching vivah I realize that there are still such heroines who can show their beauty without showing their body.
I want to share one incident with you about my friends. One day we all went to watch a movie in a multiplex. But all movies' shows were houseful, and only vivah tickets were available. No one was interested in watching vivah. I asked everyone to watch vivah because I had watched it earlier with my family, but everyone insulted me saying that it is a slow movie fit only for uncles and aunties like me. Unfortunately they had to go for vivah because no other option was left. After watching the movie everyone asked me to give the treat to them in Mc Donald’s as a penalty for not suggesting such a good movie to them earlier and I had to pay the bill of rupees 1450... Vivah is a film which has really touched my heart. It can be said to a film which stays true to India in all respects. Its great depictions of India's spiritual values and the way marriage itself is shown are extremely beautiful. I have adored the couple that Shahid and Amrita make in Vivah as well as the way Soorajji has managed to weave the incredible chemistry that unfolds between the two unconditional lovers. Music is also very suitable to the theme of the film and the original Ravindra Jain style without forgetting the mellifluous voice of Shreya Ghoshal makes it all the more relishable. Songs "Do Anjaane Ajnabhi", "Mujhe Haq Hai", "Milan" and " Hamari Shaadi Mein" are all very very good. Their tunes are very melodious and romantic. I also loved loved loved the emphasis
Soorajji places on the worship of RadhaKrishna, an inherent part of India’s spiritual practices. It is so enlivening and blissful. Let's hope such movies will reverse the pernicious trend Bollywood is adopting by making movies full of violence, heartless scenes and supposed depictions of "modern" values which are nothing but vomit. I am very glad that most of the reviews I read about this film are appreciative and even extolling, since it shows one thing: that we don’t need to borrow ideas or cultures from Hollywood to make worldwide successful movies. A movie of the caliber of Vivah is always loved by every sane person. Finally, I must say, Vivah has made me believe in arranged marriages!!! It makes you want to get married!!! Since I am from Mauritius but my ancestors from India, I always look to such films as Vivah to find my roots. And I am always proud to have Indian ancestry since the glory of India is unimaginable. Hats off to Rajshri & entire team of Vivah!!!! The Vivah craze which got hold of me has made me fish for anything and everything related to it. On the internet, I’m always looking for reviews, BO appraisals, fan mails, wallpapers, Amrita’s or Shahid’s comments, Soorajji’s biography…and I’m even more eager for a next Rajshri project… Why all this craze? Why all this passion? Even artist M.F. Hussain has not been spared as he watched the movie over nine times. The film has reaped 5 Star Screen nominations for Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor & Actress (Yes Shahid & Amrita have been nominated!!!) and Best Supporting Actress (Seema Biswas). I would have been even more happy to see Anupam Kher or Lata Saberwal or Sameer Soni nominated or win a prize. There are so many things which are special about this movie, but I think most special is the great man that Mr Sooraj R. Barjatya is.
I already knew this fact intuitively from the devotional depiction of the worship of Sri Sri Radha Krishna and the lyrics of songs (Radhe Krishna ki jyoti & Milan Abhi…). It’s as if Sri Krishna induced me to watch the wonderful rendition of his devotee Soorajji to the sanctity of marriage, romance and family as I am myself a staunch Krishna bhakta. Watching Soorajji talk in “The Making of Vivah”, I have seen how passionate he is about cinema, how he knows the feel of every character perfectly, how he manages to convey that feel to everybody, how he pays attention to everyone’s feelings, how important he considers every detail, how he knows whom he must choose as artist to perform for his film (Amrita, Shahid, Choti, Anupam, Lata, Sameer, Seema, Alok, Ravindraji, Shreya, Uditji and so on) ….the list goes on and on. I have the greatest admiration for the kind of wholesome film. For instance, the romance in his film is always sensual, never sexy. The utopian portrayal of family life is based on spiritual teachings and values. Through Vivah, I have also realized to what extent Indian Art has progressed. How can there be such beautiful people in India still (not just physical beauty but spiritual as well), how can they sing like this, how can they act like this!!! Artistic expression is know too bring happiness and joy to the mind. It can only be God’s blessings which endows Indians with so many fine attributes, qualities & virtues. Take for example Shreya’s singing: how can a voice be so melodious, so cloyingly sweet and absolutely appropriate for Indian romance? Shreya’s singing is the work of God. Amrita’s role in Vivah adds to the absolute enchantment produced by Ravindra Jain’s lyrics & songs.
As Soorajji says, she is so pure that she does not say paani, she says jal… I say WOOOOOOW: simply and absolutely wonderful. It makes me drink the nectar of Indian Culture… Amrita plays Poonam’s nature as if she’s been born for it. As she herself says, she has a different equation with everyone: her babuji, her mother, her love of her life Prem, her sister Choti and even her father-in-law Harishchandraji… May Lord Krishna give me a Poonam just as Prem got her Poonam as wedding gift!!! Last but not least, I feel really indebted to Soorajji for giving us such a piece of art which educates us, the new generation, about the institution of marriage... All my adar pranams to Soorajji and his team... Gukhool Nithin Prakash - Mauritius |
