Sooraj R. Barjatya
Media on Sooraj…
Sooraj Barjatya - The man who started it all. Years back he made 'Hum Aapke Hain Koun' and since then there has been no looking back. There have been thrillers, socials, actioners, love stories, comedies, horror flicks, practically every genre of films that keep coming up with every passing year, but one genre that is most regular is a feel good family outing that has been devised to perfection by Sooraj Barjatya. Hence it doesn't come as a surprise when the filmmaker names his upcoming film as 'Vivah'. There have been films with titles like 'Shaadi No. 1', 'Shaadi Karke Phans Gaya Yaar', 'Shaadi Se Pehle', 'Shaadi Ka Laddoo' and many more but no one has attempted a title like 'Vivah'.

He is known to be the filmmaker who breathed new life into Indian cinema at a time when video piracy and satellite television were set to spell its doom. Full credit goes to  Sooraj R Barjatya  for instilling in people a refurbished love for cinema with such big hits like Maine Pyar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hain Koun and Hum Saath Saath Hain.
- Subhash K Jha, rediff.com, November 2005

I consider Sooraj Barjatya the best writer in the industry today. His screenplays are the best in current times. Film grammar wise, his scripts have the least flaws.

- Komal Nahta, Film Information, 2003

Sooraj R. Barjatya is like Prem, his favorite movie hero. He speaks softly, smiles a lot, shakes his head from side to side in affirmation and folds his hands automatically when he sees a woman.

- Kaveree Bazmai, India Today, 2003

Sooraj Barjatya has since Hum Aapke Hain Koun become the one to set the trend for a whole band of young moviepersons with their fingers on the public pulse.

- The Hindu, 1999

Silence is his weapon and success his forte. Started the trend of clean, wholesome movies, which appeal to family audiences. He believes in working on one film at a time.

- Star Dust, 1998

Sooraj's films break no cinematic barriers and their Indian ethos milks the Hindu joint family myth for all its sentimental assurance. But his films work because of the care and intelligence lavished on them. They are modern in technique and form... The super successful Sooraj R. Barjatya is obviously going to be one of the moulds that will shape our cinematic future.

- The 100 Luminaries of Indian Cinema, 1996

Sooraj R. Barjatya simply refined further what has always been a family tradition. HAHK, which Sooraj directed when he was just 28, was a runaway hit and is placed among the top ten most successful films in the last 80 years! Coming after the phenomenal success of Maine Pyar Kiya, HAHK has catapulted Sooraj into the big-league directors. For his freshness of approach in providing clean wholesome entertainment, Limca Book of Records honours him with the People of the Year Award for 1996.

- Limca Book of World Records, 1996

Certainly the real ace up Sooraj's sleeve is his feel for all things Indian. His films have a small town feel - characters sing songs in the kitchen, the romance is sensual, never sexy, and the most important thing is always the family.

- India Today, 1995
